If you know my mother she is honest as a the day is long. My mom is a nurse and so she is blunt, to the point and she also does not sugar coat a darn thing.
She told me only a few months in our cancer journey…”Kaylie, there are some people that will not care that your son has cancer.”
I found this completely popostrous. Never in my life have I not felt empathy towards another human. The concept that someone could not be respectful or empathetic towards my family and what we’ve lived was insane to me as I would never treat someone that way.
This past spring, I found a truly unempathetic person. They were disrespectful and made choices with no regard to our situation…although it affected us greatly. They didn’t apologize for their actions. Just made choices and left us in the wake.
Yall the whole experience has altered me. I’m bitter, angry and really hurt.
Daggone it…mom was right…there are people who do not care if your son has cancer.
So, in an attempt to build empathy. I’m going to share some posts that maybe gives some insight to life with cancer. And I’m not making them to reach the unempathetic person mentioned above…they’re not on my friend’s list Maybe just maybe though it might help you relate to someone who has experienced or is in the middle of their cancer journey.
